My Prizes from Northern Blood (Joe’s Blog Giveaway)

If you’re not already following Northern Blood then quite frankly, what are you doing?

Joe runs a male lifestyle blog but his content is for anyone of any gender. In amongst gaming, technology grooming and restaurant reviews, Joe writes about albums he likes and has a monthly playlist full of absolute bangers. He also writes some funny relatable posts about what I’d call ‘adulting’, that is, jobs, relationships and other tough stuff. His photos on his blog and on social media give me serious envy and he’s a really friendly person to talk to… so what are you waiting for?

To celebrate Northern Blood’s first blog birthday, Joe put together a bundle of absolutely amazing prizes of which I was the lucky winner! I got a bit worried that people would question me winning two giveaways in the same week but I can assure you I was randomly selected from a large number of entries.

My box from Joe was lovely, filled with tissue paper and cute sequins.
Inside there was…

A notebook and to-do list set (I love writing lists!), as well as 4 cute A6 prints all from That Lame Company.

These may have to be kept safe until I have my own proper workspace or office when we move.

A £30 Amazon Voucher which I’m really excited to pick a few bits with.

A £15 ITunes Voucher that I think I will save until Beyoncé drops her new album or Deadpool is released… hopefully I can get both!

Wren Family Favourites Blogger Cookbook packed full of some of my favourite bloggers and some great new recipes to try.

The Body Shop  Modern Gents Post Party Rescue Kit – I think this will be perfect for Josh for a hungover day with a nice hot bath.

Thanks again to Joe for such a generous set of great prizes.

I’ve decided that I’ll run a giveaway here later in the year as a thanks to all my lovely readers and the great fellow bloggers I’m happy to have affiliated with. The prizes will be ‘gender neutral’ so that anyone can enter and win something they’d really enjoy using.

Have you run a giveaway on your blog before?

FOTD: Smashbox Art, Love, Colour Bestsellers Kit

So I was lucky enough to win a fabulous giveaway over on Jemma’s beautiful blog, Floral Etiquette. Jemma is a deputy editor, blogger and fellow purple-haired lady and her blog photography is just perfect. She loves pastels (just like me) and has some really aesthetically-pleasing posts about homeware and makeup, as well as some more thoughtful lifestyle content.

Jemma’s giveaway prize was this gorgeous Smashbox Art, Love, Colour Bestsellers Kit – how could I not try my chances?

I love Smashbox as a brand. Their makeup is top-quality and the price isn’t too arguable for how far it goes. Josh buys me the Jet Set gel eyeliner every year for Christmas or my birthday and if you buy directly from the site, they throw in a free gift too. Because of this, I’ve got the Photo Finish Primer and the Full Exposure Mascara already but I’m glad to have increased my supply with this kit!

I thought I’d do a basic day-to-day look using the products in the kit to show what they look like together and I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

Here’s my FOTD (face of the day):

The primer goes a really long way and is perfect for long days or nights out as your foundation (and your eyebrows if you draw them on like me!) will not budge. The shades in the little eyeshadow set compliment each other perfectly and I find brown makes blue eyes really pop!

I wasn’t too sure about the colour of the lipgloss on me… Although it says it was the ‘Pink Lady’ shade, I think they’d put the wrong one in the box as this was a creamy beige colour and I found it to be a little orangey on me, even on top of foundation.

Brows: Collection Intense Colour Supersoft Kohl Pencil in Birdy Song // Makeup Revolution I ♡ Makeup Brow Kit Bold is Best
Base: Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer  (oil-free) // Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in Light Porcelain
Little Touches: Collection Cover Up Stick Concealer in Light/Translucent // Collection Pressed Powder in 18 Ivory
Eyes: Smashbox  Photo Op Eyeshadow Trio in Filter // Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black // Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Deep Black
Lips: Smashbox Be Legendary Lipgloss (not sure of shade?)

Feminist Wishlist

A fellow blogger babe Rhiân did one of these a while back on her blog and I’ve been wanting to make my own but wasn’t quite sure if it would interest people. Having put a poll out on Twitter in the New Year asking what content you guys wanted, feminism had a majority vote (alongside mental health and self care stuff). I’ve now got a posting schedule that reflects the results of that poll but you can always leave me comments with what content you want to see more of and I’ll see what I can do!

These are a few picks from my fave sites that would be perfect for any feminist.

Feminist Wishlist (1)

1 |’Try To Love Yourself As Much As You Love Beyoncé’ tee by Liana Spiro on RedBubble

I do love Beyoncé and I should love myself more so this is a personal must-have! The design is so cute and pretty.

2| ‘You are Lisa Simpson’ pillow by Expo on Studio6

This is from Mr Bergstrom’s note to Lisa in the episode ‘Lisa’s Substitute’. It is supposed to remind Lisa that if she ever feels alone or not good enough, she is all she needs. Such a positive message and Lisa is a feminist icon of TV.

3| ‘I Think Your Sexist Jokes Are Boring’ tote bag from Feminist Apparel

This tote bag is not only practical but has a point! I have said this to so many people in my life.

4| ‘Not Your Bae’ pin from Punky Pins

I love Punky Pins and will be placing my first order soon to decorate a blazer of mine. There are so many cute designs but this one was my feminist fave.

5| Color Her : Mix n’ Match Coloring Book by Iris Glaser & Katrin Leblond from Amazon

A coloring book filled with women of all shapes, ethnicities and ages. Accurate representation and you have free reign with what beautiful colours you use – yay!

6| ‘She Needed A Hero So That’s What She Became’ mug from MiniGeekBoutiqueUK on Etsy

This isn’t necessary only for feminists. This is a sweet gift for any strong woman or girl in your life as a reminder that she has overcome so much.

7| ‘Feminist Killjoy’ glitter banners from UnicornParadeShop on Etsy

These are adorable but I don’t have anywhere to put them in my house at the moment. Perhaps an office when we move? Plenty of cute banners in this Etsy store.

Christmas Day (in pictures)

(For the vlog on this page, scroll to the bottom of the post.)

Happy  (belated) Holidays everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday period spending time with people you love and that you got to take time out of your busy lives to relax. I certainly did as I pretty much swore off of social media over Christmas to spend more time with friends and family and to stop pressuring myself so much about posting.

I always go to my Mum’s house on Christmas Day and I spend it with her, my little sister Jazmin and my Nan. Josh usually arrives in the evening once he’s had dinner with his family and it’s his birthday on the 25th too so it’s always a lovely day. Though we aren’t at all a well-off family, we tend to get each other some very thoughtful and important gifts because it’s the one time of year where we treat each other. The holidays for us aren’t about spending tons of money on extravagant details, they’re about quality time with the people you love and spending a day being kind to ourselves and one another.

Nothing beats my Mum’s cooking – she’s who taught me what I know about food! We had a lovely day listening to music, watching a film and playing games well into the night and I did manage to grab a few great moments on my camera that I didn’t post online at the time. I love rewatching all of my family’s reactions (including Lenny the dog) to their special gifts in the vlog below…

#TLSXmas Blogger Gift Swap

(I know this is a bit late but if you want to read why I didn’t post over the Christmas period, see here.)

I just love taking part in gift swaps! Not only does it really make you think about what to get but it’s a great way to link up with other bloggers and to get to know them. Katy at The Lilac Scrapbook organised a fun gift swap just before Christmas. She paired us up and then we had to agree a budget and a posting date between ourselves. I liked doing that because it meant less pressure to post by a certain time and also gave you time to follow the other person’s content to get to know what they like.

I was paired with Sophie from Essential Twenty and she was really sweet. A fellow student, she and I agreed to spend no more than £15 on our gift boxes and we told each other a bit about what we like. Sophie’s box for me was just perfect and she had wrapped it in hand-drawn cute paper which was a really nice touch! As well as that, each gift had a little clue as to what might be inside.

Never try to take blog photos with Trixie around…

Inside my #TLSXmas gift box, there was:

* An adorable Hello Kitty colouring set for when I need some stress relief.
*A Lindt chocolate bunny and a candy cane (apparently very difficult to wrap!)
*Some festive and comfy Christmas pudding socks
*A gorgeous Mulled Wine scented candle
*Two Makeup Revolution Amazing Lipsticks (in Dare and Dazzle)
*A No7 Gel Finish nail colour in Red

Thankyou so much to Sophie for such a personal and thoughtful package and I’m glad you liked your box from me too! Thanks also to Katy for organising such a great swap.

#BloggerSecretSanta – I got a cute, anonymous parcel for Christmas as part of Char’s gift swap…

#BloggerBoxSwapLynsey Emily and I exchanged some gifts earlier this year as part of Becky and Ms Mistry’s gift swap…

#bloggersecretsanta unwrapping

So the lovely Char from t*rexes and tiaras set up a Blogger Secret Santa whereby each person sent and received a gift from an unknown person. You could choose to keep your identity completely secret as Char assigned the givers and recipients herself.

This is exactly what my Secret Santa did! It’s so exciting to open an unexpected treat, especially when you don’t know who it’s come from.

My lovely parcel recommended that I listen to Kids In Glass Houses – Secret Santa whilst opening it. It’s one of my favourite songs at the moment… how did they know?

Inside the parcel was a cute little card with a fluffy, beardy Santa on the front and an anonymous message. It’s killing me not knowing who sent it!

They also sent a lovely selection of stationery, perfect for keeping  me organised with my university work next term.

They’re so nice, I don’t know if I can bring myself to use them…

Thankyou ever so much to my Secret Santa for my thoughtful selection – whoever you are!

(Apologies for the shoddy photographs in this post – I was using my phone but I have a better blogging camera now as you lot know.)

Recently I took part in a fantastic ‘box share’ swapping event organised by Ms Mistry and Becky from Blogger and the Geek. We were paired at random with another blogger and had to create a box of treats for them – sort of like a care package – based on their likes and for a total of £10 or less.

My #BloggerBoxShare partner was the lovely Lynsey Emily and she picked out some really sweet and thoughtful things that I thought I would share with you guys!

My box arrived (a bit squished by the postal workers)…

blogger_box_share_lynsey_emily_post_package_surprise_gift blogger_box_share_lynsey_emily_post_package_surprise_gift

And inside, there was…

A selection of really healthy herbal teas for my detox month that I can’t wait to try… especially with all my uni stress at the moment!

Some Luxe temporary fashion tattoo transfers in metallic shades and a watercolour design… (I desperately want more ink but can’t afford it so what a great compromise!)

A cute little perfume diffuser bottle – perfect for my handbag.

A beautiful rose gold bracelet and earrings set with a dainty little arrow on from

A gorgeous handmade tealight candle holder – perfect to protect Trix from open flames!

How cute is that?

Thanks so much to Lynsey for my lovely gifts – I can’t wait to try them all out and they’re all really useful picks.

Lynsey is on a blogging hiatus at the moment but she assures me that she loved her box from me so perhaps you’ll hear about it in the future!
