lost my blogging mojo

Recently I’ve lost my blogging mojo. I can’t exactly pin it down to one specific moment but after a series of unfortunate events in my personal life, I’ve been left feeling uninspired. It’s not that I don’t have ideas, I have a few scribbled down in my journal. It’s not that I don’t see what other people are doing and want to talk about, share or promote that. To be honest, I think it’s a lack of faith in myself.

I don’t want this post to come across as some kind of pity party or an excuse as to the lack of content. It’s just that somewhere between my brain and the screen, things aren’t co-operating. I watch all my favourite Youtubers with their cool set ups and their creative ideas. I scroll through Bloglovin and read some fantastic posts filled with honest opinions. I check my social media and see some great art, be it illustration or photography. You guys are all amazing and I love seeing what you put out.

But that’s just it. I don’t love what I’m putting out. There are a few posts here and there that I would say I like but none that I’m really proud of. And that’s sad.

But… it’s not all doom and gloom. I’m planning a rebrand real soon and moving over to a new domain. It will still be my content but it will be injected with a bit of confidence and a new look. This site was only ever a hobby, a space to rant about feminism and talk about being a curvy, queer, alternative girl… Now I have readers and that’s great! But I owe you guys more. The new site means bigger, bolder, braver content – no more hovering in my drafts, no more photos sat on my memory card. I’m gonna post the thing.

Have you ever been in a creative rut? What helped you to get out of it?

Let me know and leave me links in the comments below.

  1. I’ve definitely had those feelings! I got out it by having ideas and just starting to write. Then more ideas came and then it seemed like the weird creative fog I was under lifted. I’m sure you’ll find your mojo with a new look!

  2. Hey Jenna I think, we’ve all been there with whatever we create be it blogging, music, or in my case poetry. The good thing is it eventually passes and we usually emerge stronger and more energised.

    Look forward, to your rebrand

  5. So sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling this way! It’s something that I’ve struggled with before, too 😦 When I’m particularly struggling with my depression, I get lots of negative feelings towards my blogging. I just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love your blog! I love the way you write and I’ve always found your posts enjoyable and interesting to read! I hope you can find your blogging mojo again soon! I’m really looking forward to reading your posts again. Awesome that you’ve got a rebrand planned; I can’t wait to see it. When I’m in a creative rut, I just try to not pressure myself to blog and I go out and have fun with my friends and family. I take a little notebook with me to write down any ideas I get whilst out and about from conversations I have, things I see, things I buy, etc. Your blogging mojo will come back to you, don’t make yourself feel pressured. All your readers love your blog & we’ll wait until you’re ready 🙂 x

    • I know totally how you feel then! Without going in to too much detail, I’ve had a pretty bad run of things recently. I’m due a serious change in my luck. I love your blog too, my twin 😉
Thank you for your kind words as always, you’re always so supportive and it means a lot.

  6. I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling in at the moment Jenna – I can definitely sympathise a I’ve been there before too. When I first started blogging way, way back, it was very generic, and not really me and it’s only since I’ve embraced my love of nature and turned my blog into more of a photo journal that I’ve become happy with it. I definitely think you have to embrace your passions, whatever they are and although I know it’s tough to do, try not to compare yourself to other bloggers or YouTubers, and I’ve done it myself so I know, but it’s the hardest thing to do to yourself, because there’s only one of you, and you are good enough without any extras! Sending you lots of encouragement and internet hugs. Don’t be afraid of taking some time away from blogging too, sometimes that can help as well. 🙂 Hope you’re feeling better soon and I look forward to the new site! – Tasha
